Hair Fall – The Healthy Truth

Hair Fall and The Hair Growth Cycle

The hair growth journey begins below the skin, where the follicle is situated. At the base of the follicle, blood vessels provide the root with the essential nutrition needed to grow. Each hair follicle is independent and undergoes the growth cycle at various times. If every hair was in the same growth phase, all your hair would fall out at the same time. These four stages are anagen, catagen, telogen, and exogen.

4 Growth Cycle Stages

  • ANAGEN GROWTH PHASE: Your hair grows about 1.5cm a month.   • EXOGEN REGROWTH PHASE:  This forms part of the resting phase. While the old hair is inactive, a new hair begins to grow. Roughly 50 to 100 strands of hair can fall out daily, which is considered to be normal.

Interrupted Growth Cycle

There are many causes of hair loss, however, thinning hair, hair loss, and hair growth problems occur when the growth cycle is interrupted.  An interrupted growth cycle can be triggered by illness, poor diet or hormonal changes.
